Ernest L. "Sonny" James has been called home to be with our heavenly Father to begin his new life with Him early Sunday morning July 25, 2010. He was born to Ernest James Sr. and Naomi Shannon James on December 7, 1951 in Sumter, South Carolina.
Early in his life Sonny attended the Public Elementary School System in Sumter, South Carolina. He then moved to New Jersey where he continued his education in the Paterson Public School System. In 1970 he graduated from John F. Kennedy High School. After graduation Sonny moved on to work in the Iron Industry where he was a part of the Iron Workers District Council of Northern New Jersey Local 483.
Sonny met and married his high school sweetheart, Betty Pickett James. They were blessed with three sons: Jamie Pickett, Jason Pickett and Tavon Curvy; 6 grandchildren: Davonte Howard, Japhon Pickett, Navon Pickett, Jirah O' Neill, Neonce Pickett and Marson Butler.
Sonny was preceded in death by his parents Ernest James Sr., and Naomi Shannon James; 2 brothers, Leroy Shannon and Joseph Shannon; 2 sisters, Juanita Lacout and Delores James and a granddaughter, Jasonna Terry.
Sonny also leaves to cherish his memories, his mother-in-law, Lottie Pickett; 3 sisters, Christine Shannon, Evelyn Belfield and Dorothy Singletonl 1 brother, Charles Williams; 5 sisters-in-law, Louella Pickett, Sandra Pickett, Geraldine Hunter-Longmire, Tihesha Hogan, and Odessa Pickett; 5 brothers-in-law, James Pickett, Charles Pickett Sylvester Hunter, Robert Longmire and Morris Singleton; 5 Godchildren, Swanisha Hinton, Jermaine Belton , Jamar Belton, Marvin Moody, Jr., Irving Barrentine Jr., and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
